In Memoriam : Rowland Davies
Rowland Tudor Davies - age: 84
(May 28, 1927 to July 09, 2011 ) Resident of Point Pleasant, New Jersey Visitation Information: Visiting Monday July 11 from 6-9 pm In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Blue Ocean Institute, P.O. Box 145, Bay Head, NJ 08742. Obituary: Rowland Tudor Davies, Jr., 84 of Point Pleasant Beach, died on July 9 at home in the loving care of his family. He grew up in Scranton, Pa. and Maplewood, served in the Navy, attended Seton Hall University and became one of the first Certified Tree Experts in N.J. He was the owner of R.T. Davies Tree Experts, Inc., a business he started as a sideline in 1948 and grew into a thriving company based in Morristown. In 1972 he relocated the business to Point Pleasant Beach and replicated his success with his sons working alongside him. A lifetime member of the Arborist Association of New Jersey, he also belonged to National Arborists Association and International Society of Arborculture. Handsome and charming to the end, “Rollie” had an infectious enthusiasm for the many things he loved: the tree business; building projects; providing for his large family; piling the kids into the station wagon for road trips to his old Sussex County haunts; listening to music—from Janis Joplin to Irish rebel songs to Pavarotti and Johnny Cash; singing (his “Danny Boy” could bring the house down); reading everything from philosophy and history to thrillers and exposés; reciting the poetry of Tennyson, Kipling and Service; good food; good times; wildlife and the outdoors; and most of all, sweet Jane, his wife of 54 years who predeceased him in 2007. He was also renowned as a fanatic and skilled hunter and angler, and the move to shore in the 1970s was as much about exploring new fields and streams and honing his deep-sea fishing prowess as tapping into a new tree-service market. His singular, indomitable spirit lives on in his 10 children, Mary Murphy (Michael) of Beaufort, S.C.; Catherine of Washington, D.C; Anne Murphy (George) of Portsmouth, R.I.; Rowland Tudor III (Genevieve) of Brick; Susan Warner (Michael) of Point Pleasant Beach); Daniel of Manasquan; Brian of Farmingdale; Martin (Elizabeth) of Point Pleasant; Amy Struncius (Paul) of Point Pleasant Beach; and Sean of Manasquan; 16 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and his sister, Joan, of Windsor, Conn. ________________________________________ Friends may gather Monday, July 11 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Orender Family Home for Funerals, 2643 Old Bridge Road, Manasquan. A mass of celebration will be offered at St. Peter's in Point Pleasant Beach on Tuesday at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Blue Ocean Institute, P.O. Box 145, Bay Head, NJ 08742. To send condolences to the family or obtain directions to the funeral home please visit www.orenderfamilyhome.com. |

Blessings flowed through Uncle Rollie to many. With everyone he was honest, kind, fair, selfless, giving, and a real straight shooter with a wonderful joy of life and song from his heart on his lips. The heavens have a "New" Irish Tenor in the midst of angels. May your family be eternally happy knowing that you are in Gods sight and Jane's arms forever. Uncle Rollie was a great influence on my Dad and family. Had it not been for Uncle Rollie having Ed as one of his best friends growing up, Mom (Joan...the little sister) never would have met my Dad. Hugs to the whole family.
