Obituary:
Jeffrey C. Bruett, 57 of Brielle passed away at home Wednesday September 8 after an unflinching battle with cancer. Jeff was born in Glen Ridge, NJ and was a graduate from Montclair High School and Mitchell College. He was a seasonal tennis instructor at the Wellfleet Tennis Resort on Cape Cod and later became an offshore commercial fisherman out of Manasquan Inlet, NJ and Key West, FL. Jeff was also an accomplished carpenter and woodworker who created sublime hand-carved, painted fish. He was married for twenty years to his beloved wife Sherry, whom he adored. Jeff always found kind words, never let his family down and left everyone happier for seeing him. Jeff was a magnificent soul and everyone lucky enough to know him has less fun in their lives today.

Jeff was predeceased by his sister Caryl Bruett Funke and a niece Kimberly Nelson. He leaves behind his siblings William H. Bruett of Far Hills, NJ, Christa J. Bruett of Lauder Hills, FL, Grgeory J. Bruett of Marblehead, MA and Charles H. Bruett III of Herbertsville, NJ. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews David C. Bruett, Margaret F. Novello, Abbie E. Bruett, Lindsey D. Bruett, Kelly M. Bruett, Caycee Emanuele, Charles H Bruett IV, Ryan G. Bruett, and a grand niece, Caroline R. Bruett, all of whom knew Jeff to be the world’s most excellent uncle.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Monday September 20 from 12-3 pm at Orender Family Home for Funerals, 2643 Old Bridge Road, Manasquan. Memorial service will begin at 2:45 pm. Burial will be private. At the family’s request please no flowers. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Sol Amor Hospice, 1415 Hooper Avenue, Suite 203, Toms River, NJ 08753. So sad to hear the news of Jeff's passing. I'll always treasure our childhood memories, especially with the milk cart house. Heaven is a happier place now that Jeff is there. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you, love Terri

To Chip and the Bruett Family, I am very sorry to hear of Jeff's passing. I had not heard in a while about his condition, and had not seen Ron or Jim to ask about him so I was surprised and saddened to read about it in the paper. Though I didn't know Jeff that well, I think I was around him enough to know that the praise given him in the obituary was well deserved and true. I know he was taken much too soon and I extend my sincere condolences to your family. I will be away through Monday, otherwise I would pay my respects in person. Sincerely, Bob Moore

To the entire bruett clan - My deepest sympathies to all of you. I'm so sorry to say that Jeff and i lost touch over the last 15 years or so. The last time I saw him was when he came to Verona, Nj for my 40th birthday. What a good friend he was. I cherish our days at Montclair High and our time together on the hockey team - and the many good times at our respective homes in Montclair, not to mention those wonderful summers at Cape Cod with him and Brian Dean - we were a fearsome threesome - that's for sure. I look forward to paying my respects tomorrow. When i told my family of jeff's passing - here is one of the messages from a sister of mine (Patty) Wow, this is so sad! I am so sorry that we lost contact with him. He was the best and so much a part of my childhood. Always a great story and good laughs with him. God bless!

Sherry: I was so very sorry to learn of Jeff's passing. Even though I have not seen you for such a long time, I think of you often as you left such a wonderful, lasting impression on me. Being with you and Jeff was like a slice of heaven as you loved each other so much and the laughter never ended; it was such fun to be with you two. If you want to talk or need anything, please call me. I'm at 732 914 9776. I am confident God will give you the courage and grace to get through this awful time. I will be thinking of you and praying for you. Fondly, Terry

Chip and Bruett family. When we grew up next door to you guys in Montclair you were like our extended family and it seamed like we did everything togeather. It's been at least 40 years since we've seen you but when I think about some of the times we had it seams like yesterday. I'm so sorry to hear of Jeff's death and wish we could have gotten togeather long ago. We will be thinking of you and your family. God bless, Tom

DEAR BRUETTS ALL, WE ARE ALL SO SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT JEFF'S UNTIMELY DEATH AND SEND OUR HEARTFELT SYMPATHY TO THE ENTIRE FAMILY. MOVING NEXT DOOR TO YOUR FAMILY WAS SUCH A LUCKY THING FOR US-WE HAD A WONDERRFUL EXAMPLE AT AN EARLY POINT IN OUR MARRIAGE AS TO HOW TO RAISE A LARGE LOVING FAMILY AND HAVE FUN DOING IT. ALL OF YOU KIDS WERE SO MUCH FUN FOR OURS AND WE LOVED ALL OF YOU AND YOUR PARENTS AS WELL. WE WOULD LOVE TO HEAR FROM OR SEE ANY OF YOU-MANY OF OUR KIDS LIVE NEARBY. LOVE AND PRAYERS TO ALL OF THE BRUETTS. LOVE, JANE AND TOM DYAL

Chip and Family: I was looking on-line to locate Chip today and learned Jeff had passed away. I did not even know he was ill, it had been so long since I had seen anyone last. I am so sorry and from myself and my family, I would like to say how sorry I am about this. Jeff is one of those men who I often thought of. I spent many fun hours with him on the bay and having a cold one.
